The Railgun Test

The scientists of Moscow region are testing the very first Russian compact railgun. The device can accelerate objects up to 6 km/s. At first shot, the plastic bullet which weighs only 2 grams pierced right through 4 blocks of hardened steel at the speed about 3.2 km/s. The railgun can be used both to launch mini satellites on low orbit, and for military purposes, the scientists say.
